It’s still summer… but something’s changing.

We are still sipping iced coffee and maybe heading to the pool, but notebooks and sweaters are starting to appear on store shelves, hinting that something new is on the horizon.

And lots of exciting things can happen during times of change.  This natural change in season can be your nudge to make progress on something, without forcing more willpower or piling more pressure on your plate.

With five months left in the year, there is still enough time to reach the important things, but not enough time to keep putting them off.

How Seasonal Changes Boost Momentum

When my kids were little, late summer meant school prep:

  • Checking if last year’s shoes still fit
  • Emptying crumbs from backpacks
  • Restocking the snack box for school lunches

While I was at it, I’d end up tackling bigger projects — sorting out closets, reorganizing the kitchen, clearing paper piles. One change always sparked another.

And you don’t need kids or a school calendar to feel that same energy.

Nature is already setting the pace. When everything around you changes — routines, weather, schedules — it’s easier to start (or finish) something that matters to you.

Momentum Tip: Don’t fight to create energy from scratch. Borrow it from what’s already moving around you.

Three Quick Ways to Use This Energy

Set aside 20 minutes away from your usual spot and ask yourself:

  • What do I want to leave behind as summer ends?
  • What do I want to take with me into fall?
  • When December comes, what will I be glad I started now?

Your Turn

We’ve got five months left in the year. That’s plenty of time for something meaningful — but not enough time to keep “thinking about it.”

What’s the one thing you’re ready to move forward now?
